SEPT. 9 Business Communications Defined: For Your Business or Career.
Elena Acoba, independent business professional, will show why businesses need a
program of regular communications & how to establish a career in the field.
Acoba has worked in business & in mass communications for 32 yrs. She is a past
president of the International Assn. of Business Communicators / Tucson. $
SEPT. 16 How can a minority business owner succeed when even mainstream businesses are failing? Commissioner Lucinda Hughes-Juan will clue you in.
SEPT. 21 With news space limited, how do stories for clients or groups hit the paper or TV? Come hear Arizona Daily Star editor Tiffany Kjos, Inside Business & KUAT pull no punches in letting you know how to get a competitive edge. Commissioner Maxine Goodman, will tell how she scored eight local stories in a year & half.
SEPT. 23 Keen to improve your grant-writing skills & to help your social service agency survive the recession? Commissioner Alison Hughes, who has been a successful grant writer for three decades & who is a seasoned grant reviewer for federal agencies, will discuss how to write a basic grant proposal, & show how proposals are reviewed by funding agencies. She is a faculty member of the University of Arizona Mel & Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. 1 ½ hr. seminar – ½ hour bonus. $$
SEPT. 28 Path to Math Mental Health: Do you have “Math Anxiety? Many women suffer limited jobs and educational opportunities because they’ve not had a positive experience learning math in school. Commissioner Sheila Tobias is the author of Overcoming Math Anxiety and Succeed with Math. Beginning with your math autobiography, Sheila will start you on your confidence and appreciation of math, thereby strengthening an important facet in all career and business endeavors.
SEPT. 30 Basic Intellectual Property for Women Artists & Entrepreneurs. Have an original idea & want to exploit it while protecting it? Or do you have a concern about infringing on the protected works of others? Almost any business or creative endeavor today involves understanding the law, lingo, and procedures of Intellectual Property. Commissioner and Intellectual Property Attorney Kathleen Williamson will provide a working foundation in the basics.
