Join us for Women in Government Day this Friday. The Mayor and Council and Board of Supervisors have proclaimed March 23 as Women in Government Day.
The Women’s Commission has organized a celebration to honor the contributions of women in government. Almost 60 women were nominated by their colleagues and peers for awards. A light lunch at 11:30 am followed by the program at noon. Jan Lesher will be the speaker and Mayor Rothschild will be on hand to deliver the city proclamation.
The award winners will be announced during the noon ceremony.

The Pima County Tucson Women’s Commission is proud to present Joanna Frueh and her debut performance of The Glamour of Being Real as part of our Last Saturdays Women’s House Concert Series. February 25, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the Commission building 240 N. Court Ave., Tucson. $5 donations benefit the Commission. Books will be available for sale at the performance for $10 each.
Joanna Frueh is a renowned performance artist, author, scholar, art historian and critic. She has written and contributed to many books over the decades published with academic presses (most recently, Clairvoyance, published by Duke University). The Glamour of Being Real is Joanna’s first self-published book, composed of 209 aphorisms intended as a sutra about beauty and health. Frueh draws from her personal experience and knowledge as a healthy and well- informed woman, yogi and meditator to joyfully and playfully share beauty and inspiration with all people in all walks of society. For this debut performance of The Glamour of Being Real, Kathleen Williamson will compose and perform accompanying instrumental music.
The Pima County/Tucson Women’s Commission has been advocating for equality for women since 1976. The monthly women’s House Concert Series is held every last Saturday of the month. The first half of the evening features a local or touring woman performing artist followed by an intermission and a women’s song circle until 10 pm (so please bring your songs and acoustic instruments.) Players of all abilities are welcome! Audiences of all genders and ages are most welcome!

The Pima County Tucson Women’s Commission and the League of Women Voters have joined forces to organize an all-candidate forum on October 17. The event will be held at Temple Emanu’El, 225 N. Country Club Road, Tucson (Between Broadway and 6th Street), from 6-8:30 pm. All Mayoral and City Council candidates have agreed to attend. Get there early to guarantee a seat.

The Women’s Commission is launching a four-part series that will involve elected officials and government employees explaining how government works. The series aims to give residents additional skills to become involved in the governmental process. Advance registrations are required in order to plan seating arrangements.
